Pros and Cons of Using Artificial Grass for Your Garden

Artificial grass is getting more convenient these days. They are getting a lot more realistic, too. Because of these things, it isn’t really surprising to find a lot of people, particularly those who are extremely busy with work, who are willing to spend a good amount of cash just to get this type of grass installed in their lawns.

If you still haven’t made up your mind yet, here are some of the things you need to consider before making that purchase.

Easier to maintain

If you live a busy life, you’ll find it easier to maintain artificial grass. You won’t need to spend 2 to 3 hours mowing the lawn every week which means you’ll have more free time for other important chores.

It’s also a convenient choice for people who aren’t always there to watch over their properties since artificial grass requires very little maintenance. Unattended lawn with overgrown grasses and bushes can look inviting to burglars and intruders since they’re clear signs that no one is at home.

Friendlier to the environment

Artificial grass doesn’t require fertilizers like natural grass. This means less chemicals will be carried into the drains. There will also be less carbon emissions since you won’t be using your petrol driven lawn mowers to maintain it.

Wide range of choices

Artificial grass now comes in a wide range of colors, textures and even blade lengths. You’ll be able to impress your guests on how well-maintained your lawn is even without the need to use water, gophers or even mowers.

Fit for pets

Seeing your dog covered in mud or your lawn with holes can be frustrating. These are the exact same reasons why a lot of pet owners choose artificial grass. Aside from these benefits, artificial grass is also easier to clean. They can’t be dug up, too.

More durable

Compared with natural grass that dies, artificial grass are long lasting. You won’t need to worry about it getting brown spots when exposed to too much sun or getting damaged by kids running around. There also won’t be loose soil. If a part of it does get damaged, simply replace the patch and your lawn is good as new. There’s no need to wait for the grass to grow back

Harbors bacteria

Since it requires less maintenance, a lot of people tend to neglect their artificial grass. Once they fail to clean it routinely, the grass becomes a favorable environment for bacteria to grow and thrive. They can live there for as long as 90 days which can potentially cause infection in people exposed to the grass.

Can cause allergies

Most types of artificial grass are made from ground up tires which means they have dust that can be easily exhaled by people. This poses health risks to people with allergies and respiratory problems, like asthma.

Contains chemicals

Containing harmful zinc and lead levels, artificial grass can cause stunted growth and severe mental retardation in people exposed to them. Excessive exposure to the harmful levels of these chemicals can also lead to a lot of cardiovascular problems and even death.

Artificial grass can cut down your energy and water costs but it doesn’t mean that they are entirely cheap. As a matter of fact, installing artificial grass is costly. Aside from paying for the grass, you also need to pay the people who’ll be installing them in your yard.

Provides less cushion

Artificial grass is synthetic and feels harder than natural grass. In case you slip and fall, you shouldn’t expect to get a comfortable landing. This type of grass is more abrasive, too.
