Year-one Wrap Up

One year down! I cannot believe it’s been one full year.  We have learned a lot in our DIYing baby steps, mostly that you need to take baby steps and not jump into the hard things all at once…

I wanted to provide my loyal readers with a little wrap up of the progress we have made in our  our first year of living here and starting the remodeling project, we got a decent amount of stuff done (in a perfect world it would have been a whole lot more but we did run into a lot of obstacles.  Not to mention, it’s super difficult to renovate an entire house when you live in it (and not to mention ti was fully furnished and full of things when you moved in).  So anyway, we are super proud of what we HAVE completed  and it’s so gratifying that we are remodeling this house with our own two hands.  (I actually wrote a guest post recently about the rewards of doing it yourself, check it out here).   Here’s where we are so far.

Check out our basement bar renovation!

Our memorial day weekend was spent replacing the floor in our basement.  When I say ‘our’ and ‘we’ I mean, my boyfriend and his dad.  This project is way to advanced for little ol’ me.

Background: When we moved in, the basement was in shambles.  From flooding, the floor had rotted (it was ply-wood with tile on top, not to water resistant) and it had become a storage area for junk.  But, this basement, in it’s glory was absolutely amazing.  My grandfather was a mason worker and he had crafted a bar (see below) that was so unique and because of that we decided to restore the basement to it’s former glory.

Since I wasn’t skilled enough to participate in most of this project (expect picking out the floor and decorating of course), this is just going to be a before & after post.  But, if you are interested in how the tile was taken up, sub floor and floor were put down, feel free to shoot me a request in the comments!
